Welcome to Massey Park golf club. Our course in the heart of Sydney’s Inner West,  wraps around Exile Bay, so named after 58 French Canadians who were exiled from Canada for their part in the uprising in Quebec in 1938. Their presence in the Concord area gave name to Exile Bay and is the reason Canada Bay is so named. At 4,500 meters par 66, and 68 for women we are one of Sydney’s most popular public golf courses. Most players get around Massey Park under 3 and a half hours.

The 1^st at Massey Park is rated the toughest on the layout and a strong opening hole that doglegs right. Big hitters can take on the corner which leaves a short iron in. Most of us though will be driving short of the drain channel leaving just about everything in the bag to get home. Often requires a chip and a putt for par. It is always a delight to come around the dogleg on the first and enjoy the view of Exile Bay. A simple par 5 for women.

The 2^nd is a mid-length par 3. Don’t go left. Shots hit left into the trees and down the bank are big trouble. Missing right usually leaves a simple chip to the green.

The 3^rd is a great short hole. Bunkers block access to the green for all but the bravest long hitters.  The smart play is to play well short of the bunkers leaving a wedge to the green. In the old days the heavenly aroma of coffee roasting from the Bushell’s factory behind the tee caused many mis hit tee shots!

The 4^th requires accuracy from the tee. As our ancient date palm can block shots down the right. Knocking it past the tree is an option for some.

Rip the big dog down the 5^th. Watch the canal for your second as it captures plenty of balls. For some a layup short of the water is the smart play. Trust your yardage to the flag as you often can’t see the base of the flag due to mounds short of the green.

The 6^th is a straightforward par 3. Block out the canal, take dead aim and knock it on the green.

The driver gets a run down the 7^th. Crunch one down the middle and flick a short iron to a green that slopes back to front. Birdie time, our easiest hole.

The 8^th is a well bunkered par 4. Keep clear of the fairway trays and opportunity knocks as it is a simple shot to the green.

Finish the outward 9 with a tricky mid length par 3. The green is well bunkered with enough break to get your attention. A back right flag is a very well-earned par.

After refreshments from the pro shop, it’s time to grip it and rip it down 10. Good distance control is required with your approach as a deep bunker guards the front of the elevated green.

Par 3 11^th requires a well flighted shot where correct yardage is the key as the green is wide but relatively short.

The long par 3 12^th is a tough hole as it often plays into the prevailing breeze. A long and accurate tee shot is needed to find the putting surface. Par here is a good achievement.

Look to score well on the short par 4, 13^th. Driver will leave a flick with a wedge to a green that slopes back to front. When the greens are quick leaving your approach under the hole will allow a more aggressive birdie putt. 

Our 14^th  is a mid length par 3. Alignment is the key as the open vista down the hill can make set up tricky.

The 15^th is a great short par 3. The yardage suggests that par is easily achieved. But the angle of the green and array of bunkers places a premium on accuracy from the tee.    

The 16^th is the first of 3 par 4’s to finish. The hole leans ever so slightly left meaning that many players finish under the trees down the left. Aim centre right, then ensure enough club to fly the trap at the front of the green. A solid drive will offer a good scoring opportunity.

The 17^th  takes us back to the water. Driver brings water in on the left, and trees on the right into play. Many players play less than driver and still only have a short iron to the green. Don’t go left with your second shot!! A good scoring hole.

The 18^th at Massey is a tough finish to your round. Length from the tee is vital. A solid second shot is required to get home and avoid the bunkers left of the green.  Missing to the right leaves a makable up and down. Par is always a good score here, and will make the drinks in the clubhouse taste even better!! A par 5 for women gives a good chance to finish with a birdie.

18a. Our spare hole comes into play when maintenance requires a hole to be out of play. A mid iron to a tiered green demands the attention of all players. Hitting the correct tier will open up a good birdie chance.
